Updates for your TCE system
For those of you who currently have a demo
database that has expired, you may download a newer demo database by
clicking here. This demo database will expire in December of 2013. This new demo database requires that you be running program version 4.2 or higher as well as the SQL Server 2005 Express database engine or higher.
After downloading the file (be sure to note where you save the download - recommended is C:\TCEBackup), use the TCE SQL Manager program to "Restore" this database over your old TCESQLDemo database running under SQL Server 2005 Express. If you are using Microsoft's SQL Server 2008 or 2012 Express edition, you will have to use the SQL Server Express Management Studio for whichever of the versions you are using. You may also use the "SQL Server Backup and FTP" program, a free download, with any of the SQL Server versions 2005 or higher. Download that wonderful program by clicking here.
To update your TCESQL program
executable file to Version 4.2.4, dated February 24, 2014,
click here (5MB). You should have TCE version 4.2.1 or higher already installed and in use on your computer for this update. Regardless of which version you are currently using, you must also have the 2013 codes table installed and in use for this upgrade to work properly.
WARNING! You must have an active Support and Upgrades subscription enabled on your TCE system in order to install this upgrade. If you do not, or are not sure, call TCE support for help. If you try to install this update on your system without an active subscription for support and updates, you will make your TCE inoperative. BE CAREFUL!
For a Word document explaining how to set up and use the new features in the 4.2.1 (now 4.2.3) upgrade, click here. While that document does not tell you which codes are new for 2014, it does tell you what adjustments you should make to the new codes. The procedures are the same as outlined in the document for the 4.2.1 upgrade, just on different codes.

Using MS Word 2007 with merge documents in TCE - Substantial changes have been made in Microsoft's updated version of Word. For documentation on using MS Word 2007 with TCE, please click here.
The current version of the TCE SQL Manager (tcemgr.exe, 3/21/2006) is available here (348 KB). This file is only needed on the server and only works with SQL Server 2005 versions. Right-Click the link to download and save the file to the Program Files\TCE Data\ folder on the server. This version performs database integrity checking and can rebuild indexes when necessary. In order to set up automated backups with SQL 2005 Express at a certain time on days of your choice, you will need to download this file and follow the directions in the documentation included in the zipfile. Be sure to unzip this file "using full path information" to create the appropriate directory structure to properly view the instructions. These backup command files only work with SQL Server 2005 versions.
**Update your help file to the most current version by clicking here. Save the file back to your computer and put it in the c:\Program Files\The Complete Exam\ folder. When asked, confirm that you wish to overwrite the existing file.
Windows XP SP2
- In order to run TCE on WindowsXP, you must have Service Pack 2 or higher for Windows XP installed and updated with the latest patches.
read this important note explaining how to make SP2 work with TCE.
Windows Vista, Windows 7 and 8 notes: TCE can run under Vista, Windows 7, and Windows 8 (Both 32-bit and 64-bit versions), but it requires some manual set up, especially for the 64-bit version. Also, setting up the permissions to run some other programs that run under Vista and Windows 7 and 8, such as QuickBooks Pro 2007 through 2013, can be tricky and beyond the capabilities of some IT folks for multi-user access.
